Job Summary
The Nephrologist is responsible for providing specialized medical care to patients with kidney diseases and related conditions. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic renal disorders, developing individualized treatment plans, and promoting preventive care. The Nephrologist collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining accurate medical records and adhering to professional and ethical standards. This is a part-time position at Silk Road General Hospital.
Duties & Responsibilities
Examine, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases and related medical conditions.
Evaluate patients by reviewing medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic test results.
Develop and implement individualized treatment and follow-up plans based on patients’ clinical needs.
Manage chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte imbalances, and other renal disorders using evidence-based practices.
Prescribe medications and other appropriate treatments in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
Educate patients and their families on kidney disease prevention, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.
Refer patients for dialysis, kidney transplantation, or other specialized services when clinically indicated.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
Adhere to professional ethics, clinical standards, infection prevention protocols, and hospital policies.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continuing medical education, and departmental activities as required.

Minimum Specification Requirements
Educational Qualification & Work Experience
Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
Specialty certification in Nephrology from a recognized training institution.
Valid professional license to practice medicine in Ethiopia.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a practicing Nephrologist is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic kidney diseases.
Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements
Comprehensive knowledge of nephrology principles, renal diseases, and evidence-based treatment protocols.
Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and patient management skills.
Ability to interpret laboratory results, imaging studies, and other diagnostic investigations related to kidney disorders.
Proficiency in developing and implementing individualized treatment and follow-up plans.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient counseling skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Strong clinical decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to medical ethics and professional standards.
Good organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
Basic computer skills and proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) and other healthcare information systems.
