 Purpose of the Job

The purpose of the job is to undertake the preparation, mixing, and handling of raw materials used in glass manufacturing, ensuring the correct composition for high-quality glass production. The role ensures safe and efficient operation of the batch plant, contributing to the seamless functioning of the furnace while adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations. Additionally, the Operator monitors equipment performance, troubleshoots operational issues, and maintains accurate records to support quality control and production efficiency.

Major duties and Responsibilities

• Assists the supervisor in the planning, direction and management of the furnace operation.

• Operates the batch plant machinery to mix raw materials according to production specifications.

• Monitors material feed rates to ensure consistency and prevent defects in glass composition.

• Adjust and calibrate batching equipment to maintain efficiency and accuracy in material mixing.

• Ensures machinery settings align with production requirements for optimal glass quality.

• Performs routine maintenance on batch plant equipment to prevent breakdowns.

• Identifies and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and material inconsistencies affecting production.

• Ensures strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards during batch processing.

• Follows safety protocols when handling raw materials and operating heavy machinery.

• Maintains detailed batch mixing records, including material quantities and equipment performance.

• Reports operational issues and quality control findings to supervisors and quality control teams.

• Addresses emergency situations in batch plant operations, ensuring rapid resolution to maintain production efficiency.

• Works with maintenance teams to implement corrective actions for recurring issues.

• Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge and skills (Competence)

Education

• BSc bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related fields.

• Trainings on batching operation, material mixing protocols and safety compliance for handling hazardous materials

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in glass manufacturing and furnace operations 

Experience:

Skills

• Proficiency in batch plant equipment operation and troubleshooting.

• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.

• Ability to analyze material composition to ensure correct mixing ratios.

• Problem-solving skills to identify and correct mechanical failures in batch processing.
