1. Background

The Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) is leading the technical implementation of the National Eye Health Survey, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), which provides overall leadership and coordinates with relevant partners. The survey aims to determine the prevalence, causes, and determinants of blindness, visual impairment, and other common ocular morbidities among the Ethiopian population of all ages. The survey will be implemented across regions and two cities in Ethiopia, urban and rural areas, and enumeration areas using standardized population-based survey methods. EPHI therefore invites qualified and experienced professionals to apply for the positions described below.

1. General Objective

To recruit qualified and experienced professionals who will support successful implementation of the National Eye Health Survey through coordination, clinical examination, participant assessment, data collection, data management, statistical analysis, quality

1. Duration of Engagement

The overall survey implementation period is expected to be six (6) months, including preparation, training, field implementation.

Number Required: 20 Duration: Fieldwork period for 6 moths

Key Responsibilities

• Lead assigned survey field teams and establish and supervise the central examination site within each selected enumeration area.

• Conduct appropriate eye examinations based on the tool and diagnose causes of visual impairment and blindness, diagnose cataract and other ocular conditions and assign ICD codes.

• Ensure that all eligible individuals are identified and do not miss the examination by conducting household visits and appropriate follow-up

• Supervise optometrists and ophthalmic nurses.

• Make referrals and ensure clinical quality and ethical standards of the data.

• Assure daily data will be send to the EPHI server.

• Collect the eye health survey instruments and equipment from EPHI and return all items to EPHI at the end of the survey.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• Medical Doctor with recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology.

10 years total experience preferred. Proposed Remuneration: ETB 90,895 per month plus applicable field daily per diem

• 4 years total experience preferred. Proposed Remuneration: ETB 79,895 per month plus applicable field daily per diem

• Valid professional registration/license.

• Research experience is highly desirable.

Job Requirements The successful candidate should possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with a recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology.
