Position Purpose

Develop, direct and oversee the execution of all aspects of the plant’s operations in the most cost-effective way and in alignment with BGI’s mission, vision, values and business performance goals, through effective use of assets and human resources, exceptional leadership skills and a passion for delivering excellence to achieve output and quality targets and enable operating and profit objectives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop and lead the execution of factory operational plan in alignment with the strategies defined at corporate level and assure optimal plant performance and productivity 

  • Develop and manage the plant's annual operating budget including production costs, labor expenses, inventory management, etc., within guidelines set by the corporate leadership.

  • Continuously evaluate and optimize processes to identify opportunities to reduce costs, reduce waste, and improve overall operational efficiency

  • Monitor and analyze key performance (KPIs) to assess the plant's financial performance and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Oversee the smooth functioning and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and utilities to ensure smooth and un-interrupted operations

  • Establish and enforce strict quality control measures, safety protocols, emergency response plans, and accident prevention programs to maintain the highest standards in compliance with Group, Corporate Office and industry regulations and standards for safety, quality, and environmental sustainability

  • Provide strong leadership and guidance by fostering a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes growth, competency development, effectiveness and engagement.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, and accountability throughout the plant by setting clear performance expectations, conducting regular performance evaluations, providing feedback and coaching as necessary and address any performance concerns or disciplinary issues.

  • Represent BGI organization with local officials and representatives and manage relationships with vendors

  • Do a daily factory tour with all the HOD’s and review the daily deliverables of each section, animate and challenge the team.

  • Synthesize sites activities to line manager with highlights of main events of challenges

  • Ensure workplace health & safety protocols are practiced properly through effective coordination with the Health & Safety Coordinator

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the line manager

Job Requirements

  • The position requires a minimum of BSC Degree Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering or Food Processing Engineering. Master’s degree preferred

  • 12 or 10 years of progressive experience in a large FMCG organization leading a factory or production operations integrated production operation and industrial operations. 5 years should be in a senior management role with P & L and workforce management responsibility.

  • Experience of the principles and practice of business planning, production and operation strategy and planning, leading its design and implementation.

  • Experience of managing, motivating and developing a multi-disciplinary workforce and harnessing the talents of employees at all levels.

  • Experience of successfully leading management of change within a corporate setting.

  • Experience of working in co-operation and partnership with a wide range of internal and external bodies including statutory agencies/organizations.

  • Experience of having successfully managed substantial budgets through rigorous control procedures, as well as delivering budget options within a corporate framework.

  • Experience of establishing and implementing business planning processes and performance management systems to ensure appropriate and cost effective production and operations management.

  • Ability to demonstrate a clear vision of the future for BGI Ethiopia’s corporate support services and the challenges facing those services in the short and medium term.

  • Well-developed analytical skills and proven ability of setting/achieving strategic objectives through performance management and of evaluating and achieving service quality.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, negotiate and network through highly developed written, oral and presentation skills.

  • Ability to develop innovative solutions whilst maintaining continuity of services through setting of clear goals/targets.

  • Ability to lead, motivate and enthuse individuals and teams within a rapidly changing environment.

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and ensure the successful implementation of technical initiatives and projects

  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a results-oriented mindset and a focus on driving

  • Good knowledge of the company, its businesses and culture.
