The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), re-established by proclamation No. 1133/2011, is the constitutionally mandated body to conduct elections, organize referendum and regulate political parties in Ethiopia. NEBE is working to boost its’ institutional strength with a special focus on enhancement of human resource capacity. Accordingly, NEBE would like to invite applicants for   Political Parties Liaison Expert position who meet the following requirements.

Job Summary

The Political Parties Liaison Expert serves as a bridge between the organization and political parties, ensuring effective communication, collaboration, and understanding. This role involves maintaining relationships, facilitating dialogues, and providing valuable insights to promote political inclusivity, stability, and democratic governance.

Duties and responsibilities

Political Engagement:

  • Establish and nurture relationships with political party representatives, fostering open lines of communication and mutual understanding.

  • Act as a point of contact between the organization and political parties, addressing inquiries, concerns, and requests for collaboration.

Facilitate Dialogues:

  • Organize and facilitate discussions, meetings, and workshops between the organization and political parties, promoting constructive dialogue and cooperation.

  • Assist in mediating disputes or conflicts between political parties, promoting peaceful resolutions.

Information Exchange:

  • Provide political parties with relevant information about the organization's initiatives, policies, and activities.

  • Gather insights from political parties on their perspectives, concerns, and suggestions, conveying this feedback internally for consideration.

Policy Analysis Support:

  • Assist in analyzing political policies, party platforms, and legislative proposals, providing valuable input and perspectives.

  • Research political trends, public sentiment, and electoral dynamics, contributing to the organization's understanding of the political landscape.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with government agencies, civil society organizations, and international partners to facilitate joint initiatives and enhance political dialogue.

  • Participate in forums and events representing the organization's interests and perspectives.

Election Support:

  • Provide support to political parties during election campaigns, ensuring fairness, transparency, and adherence to electoral regulations.

  • Monitor electoral processes, political campaigns, and election-related developments, reporting findings to relevant stakeholders.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of interactions, agreements, and outcomes related to political party’s liaison activities.

  • Prepare reports, briefings, and analyses on political engagements, contributing to organizational knowledge and strategic planning.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience

  • MA/M.Sc./BA in political Science, Development Studies, Human Rights, law or related field.

  • 7 years and Bachelor | 5 years and Masters

Skill Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of political systems, electoral processes, and political party dynamics.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and diplomatic skills, with the ability to build relationships and facilitate dialogues.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex political situations and provide insightful analysis.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams and across diverse stakeholder groups.

  • Ethical mindset with a commitment to transparency, impartiality, and democratic values.
