The Role

The purpose of this role is to manage technical tasks, tracks project schedules, coordinates daily operations between mining and engineering teams, and ensuring safety and quality rules are met in compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related engineering field from a recognized institution

  • Experience: A minimum of two 2 -5 years of relevant experience on Engineering Project coordinator, preferably in the mining industry cement factory or other heavy industry.

  • Location/Duty Station: Benishangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site

  • Roster: Fly-In/Fly-Out (6 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off)

Duties and Responsibilities

Schedule Tracking

  • Monitor project timelines and update progress reports.

  • Progress reporting and cost tracking.

Document Control

  • Manage engineering drawings, reports, and contracts.

Cross-Team Communication

  • Link the engineering group with field crews and mine operations.

Data Management

  • Collect daily production and engineering metrics.

Cost Tracking

  • Review project expenses and track material orders.

  • Track costs and budget control.

  • Control change management and order variations.

Permit Support

  • Help gather data for environmental and regulatory requirements.

Quality Control

  • Check that field work matches the engineering design.

Project Involvement

  • Provide technical assistance during project execution.

  • Contribute to project planning and manage budgets related to instrumentation scope.

Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to health and safety management systems, identify risks, and ensure all work is conducted in compliance with safety regulations and operational procedures.

Mentoring & Training

  • Coach and train junior local employees, sharing technical knowledge and best practices to develop their skills.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Write technical reports, maintain software backups, and provide feedback on work status in production meetings.

Support & Supervision

  • Act as a technical advisor, provide operational support, and supervise subordinates and contractors during outages or project work.

Inventory Management

  • Manage engineering spares, including requesting quotes and ordering parts to ensure equipment availability.

Finance & Commercial

Budget Tracking:

  • Monitor project spending against approved engineering and construction budgets.

Cost Variance Analysis:

  • Identify and report cost overruns or savings in real time.

Invoice Verification:

  • Review and approve contractor and vendor invoices for accuracy and contract alignment.

Forecast Reporting:

  • Assist senior management in forecasting future capital and operational expenditure.

Contract Administration:

  • Help draft, review, and manage vendor, consultant, and contractor agreements.

Procurement Support:

  • Prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, and source mine-site materials or equipment.

Risk Management:

  • Identify commercial risks related to supply chain delays or contractor disputes.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Serve as the main commercial contact between internal engineering teams and external suppliers.

Leadership / Management

  • Direct daily activities for junior engineers, technicians, and assigned contractors on site.

  • Set performance goals and provide regular feedback to team members.

  • Mentor staff to build technical and professional skills in engineering.

  • Resolve conflicts among team members or contractors quickly.

  • Coach individual team members with technical skills.

  • Develop trainee and/or backup support within the team for roster breaks.

People

  • Coaching and transfer of knowledge.

  • Assist teams to focus on the task at hand and remove obstacles.

  • Develop teams' understanding of technical and commercial aspects contributing to business success.

  • Ensure structures are resourced to the labour plan and budget.

  • Ensure that the HR System (BambooHR) is utilised.

  • Ensure training of teams to improve skill levels and achieve function objectives.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure work processes are free from safety and health hazards and that subordinates are trained to ensure safety.

  • Model behavior consistent with the Allied Safety Vision and Values.

  • Implement departmental health and safety goals.

  • Maintain processes to ensure a safe workplace for all employees and external service providers.

Compliance and Business Improvement

  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and programs as required by the operation, business, and regulator (e.g., OHSAS 18001).

  • Identify and prioritize all risks and liabilities and ensure these risks and liabilities are recorded and monitored against a mitigation action plan.

  • Conduct and control risk assessments.

Skills & Competencies

Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of QA/QC protocols, reconciliation processes, and reporting codes.

  • Knowledge of mining industry standards and practices.

  • A good understanding of quality control and quality assurance protocols.

  • Advanced Excel skills and AutoCAD, MS Project, or mine planning tools.

  • Ability to provide technical guidance, lead on projects, and mentor junior staff.

  • Excellent analytical skills to identify and resolve complex technical issues.

  • Written and spoken English and Amharic.

  • Able to work within tight timelines, maintaining accuracy and efficiency of assigned tasks.
