Background

The Pathways for Ethiopia Project seeks to engage two qualified young public health professionals to support project activities related to qualitative research, advocacy, human-centered design and capacity building. The internship aims to provide practical experience while contributing to project implementation.

Purpose of the Internship

To provide recent Master of Public Health (MPH) graduates with hands-on experience in research and program development while supporting the successful implementation of the Pathways for Ethiopia Project.

Recruitment process

Interns will be recruited through an open and competitive selection process following public advertisement of the position.

Job Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Education:

  • Hold a Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) from an accredited higher learning institution.

  • Have completed their MPH degree within the last two years.

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 (or equivalent).

Experience:

  • Have no permanent work experience.

Gender: Female.

Duration: The internship will be for a period of 6 months, subject to satisfactory performance and project needs.

Supervision: The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Research Officer and will receive guidance and mentorship throughout the internship period.

Scope of work

Under the supervision of the Pathways for Ethiopia Project team, the intern will:
  • Support the planning and operationalization of qualitative research activities.

  • Assist in data collection, transcription, data management, and preliminary analysis.

  • Contribute to advocacy and stakeholder engagement activities.

  • Support the design and implementation of HCD processes and workshops.

  • Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and dissemination events.

  • Support the preparation for the international Pathways conference.

  • Perform other project-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.

Remuneration and Compensation

During the internship period, the intern will receive a transportation and communication allowance as determined by Project HOPE Ethiopia. This allowance is intended solely to support transportation and communication expenses incurred in connection with internship activities and does not constitute a salary or employee benefit.

Expected deliverables

The intern will be expected to:

  • Support completion of assigned qualitative research activities.

  • Contribute to advocacy and HCD outputs.

  • Submit periodic progress updates.

  • Prepare a final internship report summarizing activities, achievements, and lessons learned.

Ethical and professional standards

The intern shall adhere to project policies, maintain confidentiality of all project information, and comply with applicable research ethics requirements.

Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrate strong academic performance, including a satisfactory thesis grade.

  • Possess good communication, analytical, and teamwork skills.
