Background

Amhara women’s Association /AWA/ is a nonprofit, nonpolitical and non-religious civic organization established in 1998 to empower women and girls socially and economically in Amhara regional state including Addis Ababa city administration.

 

AWA is launching twelve /12 -month project with funding secured from UN-OCHA to support internally displaced people and vulnerable house hold in North Shoa Zone, Merhabetie woreda and Shoa Robit town. This initiative aims to provide humanitarian assistance that strengthens protection outcomes, focusing on Protection and CP-GBV interventions. The project reduces protection risks for conflict-affected women, girls, children, and other vulnerable groups through survivor-centered case management, MHPSS, safe referrals, dignity kits and targeted cash for protection, ensuring safe and dignified access to life-saving services and, ultimately safeguarding their dignity and rights. The project will be carried out in North Shoa Zone, Merhabetie woreda and Shoa Robit town. In relation to this AWA wants recruit a full time project coordinator.

Purpose of the Position

The CP- Officer is responsible for implementing child protection and gender-based violence prevention and response activities in emergency and development settings. The officer will ensure vulnerable women, girls, boys, and survivors receive quality, confidential and survivor-centered protection services in accordance with humanitarian principles and international protection standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Case Management and Psychosocial Support

Identify and support vulnerable children, women, girls, and CP-GBV survivors through safe and confidential case management services.

  • Conduct assessments and develop individualized action plans for beneficiaries.

    • Provide basic psychosocial support and referrals to specialized services.

    • Ensure proper follow-up and documentation of cases.

    • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to protection principles at all times.

2. Child Protection Activities

  • Support prevention and response interventions related to child abuse, neglect, exploitation, violence, and harmful practices.

  • Facilitate child-friendly and safe space activities.

Conduct awareness sessions on child rights and protection issues.

Identify and refer children at risk, including separated and unaccompanied children.

3. CP-GBV Prevention and Response

  • Support CP-GBV awareness campaigns and community sensitization activities.

    • Ensure survivor-centered approaches in all CP-CP-GBV interventions.

    • Strengthen referral pathways for health, legal, psychosocial, and protection services. Coordinate with service providers to ensure timely support for survivors.

4. Community Engagement and Capacity Building

  • Mobilize community groups and stakeholders to support protection activities.

  • Conduct trainings for community volunteers, case workers, and local structures.

  • Promote community-based protection mechanisms.

  • Engage women, youth, and community leaders in protection discussions.

5. Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and activity reports.

  • Maintain accurate beneficiary records and protection databases.

  • Collect protection-related data while ensuring confidentiality and data protection standards.

  • Monitor project indicators and support evaluations and assessments.

6. Coordination and Representation

  • Participate in protection coordination meetings and working groups.

  • Collaborate with government offices, NGOs, UN agencies, and community actors.

  • Support referral coordination and service mapping activities.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Law, Development Studies, or related fields.

    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Child Protection and/or CP-GBV programming.

    • Experience in humanitarian or emergency response settings is an advantage.

    • Knowledge of case management principles and protection standards.

    • Strong understanding of survivor-centered approaches and safeguarding principles.

    • Experience working with vulnerable populations including women, girls, and children.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

      • Good report writing and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and in multicultural environments.

    • Computer proficiency (MS Word, Excel, email, and data management tools).

      • Teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Languages

  • Fluency in English and Amharic both writing and speaking.

    • Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
