New Millennium Women Empowerment Organization (NMWEO) is an indigenous, non-governmental, non-profit humanitarian organization established in 2007 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The organization was previously registered at the Ministry of Justice under registration number 3018 and later registered and licensed by the Federal Charities and Societies Agency as an Ethiopian resident’s charity by the Charities and Societal Proclamation No. 621/2009 by registration No. 0539. NMWEO has been re-registered according to the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No.113/2019 with registration No. 0539.

Position Overview
New Millennium Women Empowerment Organization (NMWEO) is seeking highly motivated Protection Officers to implement and oversee protection activities, ensure the provision of quality services to beneficiaries, and coordinate with partners and communities to address protection concerns. The Protection Officers will play a critical role in safeguarding the rights and well-being of vulnerable women, girls, and at-risk groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct protection assessments and identify protection risks and needs of beneficiaries, especially women, girls, and marginalized communities.

  • Implement and monitor protection activities, including case management, psychosocial support, and referrals to specialized services.

  • Facilitate awareness-raising sessions on protection, gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and human rights.

  • Establish and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms.

  • Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and service providers to coordinate protection interventions.

  • Document protection cases accurately and confidentially and ensure proper follow-up.

  • Monitor and report on protection trends and gaps to inform program planning.

  • Participate in relevant protection coordination forums and external meetings to represent NMWEO.

  • Ensure compliance with NMWEO’s safeguarding, protection, and PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Law, Human Rights, Gender Studies, or related fields.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in protection-related work, including case management, GBV, child protection, or psychosocial support.

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of protection principles and humanitarian standards.

    • Experience in working with vulnerable populations (IDPs, refugees, women, children).

    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coordination skills.

    • Ability to handle sensitive cases with confidentiality and professionalism.

    • Report writing and documentation skills.

  • Language: Fluency in English and Amharic required; knowledge of additional local languages is an advantage.
