The Public Relations Manager is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans that enhance and protect the reputation of East African Holding (EAH) and its subsidiaries. The role focuses on managing relationships with external stakeholders, including media, government agencies, regulatory bodies, and the public, while proactively addressing reputational risks. This position plays a key role in guiding the company’s public image through crisis communication, stakeholder engagement, media relations, and corporate social responsibility initiatives. Reporting to senior leadership, the Public Relations Manager ensures that EAH’s interests are effectively represented, and its public perception is aligned with its corporate values, objectives, and compliance standards.
Develop and execute public relations strategies that protect and enhance the reputation of East African Holding (EAH) and its subsidiaries, focusing on external stakeholders.
Lead crisis communication efforts, providing strategic direction and managing responses to any issues or incidents that may affect the company’s public image.
Cultivate and manage relationships with government officials, regulatory bodies, and other key public sector stakeholders to ensure positive representation and compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks.
Work with external organizations, media, and industry groups to advocate for EAH’s interests, ensuring the company is well-represented in policy discussions and industry debates.
Maintain strong relationships with the media, ensuring positive coverage and managing any negative publicity. Prepare press releases, speeches, and talking points for executives when needed.
Anticipate and address potential issues before they become public relations challenges. Develop proactive strategies to manage sensitive or controversial issues.
Organize and manage corporate events and public engagements, such as press conferences, speeches, and public-facing initiatives to foster goodwill and engagement with key stakeholders.
Craft and deliver key messaging for engagement with government agencies, local communities, and industry stakeholders to align with public policy initiatives and corporate objectives.
Monitor external events, news, and public perceptions to assess risks to the company’s reputation and provide proactive solutions to address these challenges.
Develop and manage CSR initiatives that support the company's reputation, focusing on creating positive social impact in the communities where EAH operates.
Prepare briefings for internal leadership on public sentiment, political developments, and media trends that could affect EAH’s operations or public standing.
Provide media and public speaking coaching to senior leadership and executives to ensure they can effectively represent EAH in public forums, media interviews, and public relations engagements.
Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and public policies that may affect the company and its operations, ensuring compliance and minimizing reputational risks.
Lead the development and execution of the company’s crisis management plan, ensuring effective communication during high-stress or potentially damaging situations.
Required Qualification
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field.
A Master’s degree in Public Relations, Business Administration, or a related discipline is an advantage.
Professional certifications in Public Relations, Crisis Management, or Corporate Affairs are a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of experience in public relations, crisis communications, and government relations, with a strong background in reputation management.
Proven experience in handling crisis situations, working with government officials, and managing high-profile media relations.
Demonstrated success in managing corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and advocacy work.
Competence Requirements:
Expertise in crisis communication and managing reputational risks in high-pressure environments.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
In-depth understanding of government relations, public policy, and regulatory frameworks.
Ability to develop proactive strategies for managing sensitive issues and shaping public opinion.
Strong relationship-building skills with government entities, media, and other public-facing organizations.
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage both the PR team and external relationships effectively.
Proactive and solution-oriented with an ability to stay calm and strategic under pressure.
