  • Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

The Quantity Surveyor is responsible to manage the cost of a project estimate (BoQ and BoM) quantities, cost of material, labor and time scales for material and labor, and develop local and international supplier’s database and consistently update. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Estimating quantities, costs and time scales for material and labor (BoQ, BoM, and Labor cost)

  • Manage cost of project materials and labor through SOP and checklists

  • Communicate suppliers and consultants to obtain up to date price and develop and update material costing.

  • Always collect at least three proformas.

  • Develop a standard material specifications library and consistently update the database

  • Assist and confirm work methodologies with architects, suppliers, millworks and constructors

  • Recommend and recruit junior quantity surveyors whenever necessary.

  • Prepare Quantity take off, material and labor breakdown and payment certificates.

  • Preparing initial cost estimation of design projects

  • Preparation of Monthly and Interim Payment Certificate

  • Preparation of Final accounts and Closing of the Project

  • Review and approve Contractor's Interim Payment Applications

  • Assessment and evaluation of Variations

  • Assessment and evaluation of Contractor's Claim

  • Establishing dates by which information affecting the cost estimation will be needed from other disciplines

  • Conducting field reviews and review existing drawings where appropriate.

  • Make sure work orders are signed and approved by the senior architect, contractor and client.

  • Make sure final acceptance document is signed.

  • Preparing costing and ensuring project is within or close to budget by preparing a project milestone. 

  • Assist contract administration department in the preparation of, Pre-qualification documents, Contract, Reviewing bidder's qualifications, Analysis and evaluation of tenders, Addendum and clarification of documents, Analysis and evaluation of tenders, Addendum and clarification of documents

  • Recording all design changes that affects the project cost and report claim for contract administrator and finance team

  • Write a performance evaluation report for employees under his/her supervision.

  • Prepare weekly project progress reports for management review.

  •  Any other duties as and when required by immediate supervisor that are reasonably within the capabilities of the incumbent and are aimed at achieving the company’s objectives and goals. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related fields with 5-year experience and attained professional Quantity Surveyor PQS, license given by Authority Having Jurisdiction in Ethiopia. City/Regional license is preferable

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, verbal and written. Must be fluent in spoken and written English.

  • Planning, decision making, and problem-solving skill

  • Organizing and coordinating skill

  • Negotiation skill coaching skill interpersonal skill

  • Good working experience of excel, and preferably Revit with BIM software and MS Project

  • Experience in project management

  • General knowledge of construction materials, civil and finishing

  • Should be able to review, coordinate and compile other sub consultants and contractors BoQ and BoM
