About the Geshiyaro Project

The Geshiyaro Project is a flagship multi-year initiative aimed at interrupting transmission of soil-transmitted helminths (STH) and schistosomiasis (SCH) in southern Ethiopia through a combination of high-coverage mass drug administration (MDA), WASH interventions, and data-driven decision-making. The project is implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Health and global partners.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret data from ongoing Geshiyaro surveillance, MDA coverage, parasitological surveys, and WASH assessments

  • Lead the preparation and submission of at least 3 high-impact scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals within the contract period

  • Support preparation of policy briefs, abstracts, and presentations for conferences and stakeholder engagements

  • Collaborate with the international partner researchers on manuscript co-authorship and review

  • Ensure compliance with ethical and data protection standards in all publications

  • Build the scientific publication capacity of junior research staff through mentorship 

Deliverables:

  • At least 3 scientific manuscripts drafted and submitted to indexed journals

  • Monthly progress reports on manuscript development

  • Presentation of findings to Geshiyaro team and stakeholders

  • Support in preparing scientific content for donor reports and conferences

Job Requirements

  • PhD or Master’s in Public Health, Epidemiology, Parasitology, or closely related field

  • At least 10 years of relevant research experience

  • Demonstrated success in publishing in peer-reviewed journals

  • Strong statistical analysis and data visualization skills

  • Excellent English writing and communication skills

Desirable:

  • Experience with STH/SCH research or MDA programming

  • Familiarity with NTD programs and similar interventions

  • Experience working with MoH/EPHI dataset
