The Self-Contained Teacher for KG is pivotal in creating a holistic and engaging learning experience, guiding children through their earliest formal education with individualized and developmentally appropriate instruction.
The Self-Contained Teacher (KG) is responsible for delivering all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum within a single classroom setting. This role encompasses planning, teaching, assessing, and nurturing a small group of young learners across multiple learning domains with an emphasis on holistic development.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Curriculum Planning & Delivery
Plan and deliver integrated, play-based, and developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the EYFS and British Curriculum (Pearson Edexcel) standards.
Address all prime and specific areas of learning including communication & language, physical development, personal, social & emotional development, literacy, and numeracy.
Foster a joyful and stimulating learning environment that encourages exploration, independence, and positive social interactions.
2. Assessment & Documentation
Conduct ongoing formative assessments through observations, learning stories, and developmental checklists.
Maintain accurate records of each child’s progress and developmental milestones.
Use assessment data to tailor instruction and communicate individual learning needs to parents and team members.
3. Classroom Management & Environment
Manage a safe, welcoming, and resource-rich classroom environment suitable for young children.
Establish routines and behavioral expectations that support positive social and emotional development.
Encourage inclusive practices and support children with diverse learning needs.
4. Family Engagement & Communication
Build trusting and collaborative relationships with parents and caregivers through regular communication and involvement.
Provide updates on children’s learning, wellbeing, and social development.
Address parent concerns with professionalism and empathy.
5. Professional Collaboration & Development
Work closely with the Kindergarten Coordinator, other KG teachers, and support staff to ensure curriculum consistency and share best practices.
Participate in ongoing professional development focused on early childhood education and inclusive teaching strategies.
Contribute to school-wide early years initiatives and community-building activities.
