Purpose of the Job: Under the supervision and control of the FINANCE DEPARTMENT MANAGER, Senior Accountant, will be responsible for, (I) a blend of general financial management and specialized project-based accounting and focused on accuracy, efficiency, and project profitability, (II) oversees core accounting functions, ensures compliance, and provides critical financial analysis to management, with a specific focus on areas like project costing, inventory, fixed assets, and managing accounts payable/receivable for project-based work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
Manage General Ledger:
Oversee and maintain all general ledger functions, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
Month-end and Year-end Close:
Lead the timely and accurate completion of all month-end and year-end closing procedures.
Financial Statement Preparation:
Prepare and analyse monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Reconciliations:
Perform complex account reconciliations, including bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, and resolve discrepancies.
Financial Analysis:
Conduct detailed financial analysis, including budget-to-actual variance analysis, and provide insightful commentary and recommendations to management.
Project & Cost Accounting (Specific to Electromechanical/Construction)
Project Cost Tracking:
Monitor project budgets and expenses across multiple projects, tracking direct and indirect costs (materials, labour, subcontractors, and equipment).
Job Costing: Ensure accurate job costing and the proper allocation of costs to specific projects.
Subcontractor & Vendor Management:
Review and manage subcontractor billing, change orders, retention payments, and vendor invoices to ensure compliance with contract terms.
Inventory/Stock Management:
Oversee inventory accounting, including conducting physical counts, reconciling stock records, and preparing necessary adjustments.
Project Profitability Reporting:
Prepare and report on individual project profitability to senior management, flagging any potential cost overruns.
Compliance, Audit & Internal Controls
Internal Controls: Develop, document, and maintain robust business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls.
Audit Coordination:
Coordinate and support internal, external, and tax audits by preparing necessary schedules and documentation and addressing auditor inquiries.
Tax Compliance:
Ensure timely and accurate tax reporting and compliance with all local, regional, and national tax laws (e.g., VAT, income tax, withholding tax).
Leadership & Collaboration
Mentorship:
Train, mentor, and supervise junior accounting staff and bookkeepers.
Interdepartmental Collaboration:
Liaise and collaborate closely with project managers, procurement teams, and site teams to ensure alignment of financial data and operational goals.
Technical / Behavioural competencies

Experience in drafting of presentations and reports for review.
Hands on experience with Microsoft Excel, power point and other accounting software’s.

KPI for Senior Accountant
Financial Accuracy & Compliance
Financial Statement Accuracy: Low error rates in financial reports and general ledger accounts.
Timeliness of Month-End Close: The number of days taken to complete the monthly financial close process.
Audit Findings: Number of significant audit adjustments or control deficiencies identified by internal or external auditors.
Compliance Rate: Percentage of tax filings and regulatory reports submitted accurately and on time.
Operational Efficiency & Project Performance
Project Profit Margins: Tracking and reporting on actual versus budgeted profit margins for individual projects.
Budget Variance Analysis: Timeliness and effectiveness of identifying and reporting on significant budget variances (e.g., actual project costs vs. budgeted costs).
Accounts Receivable Turnover/DSO: Efficiency in collecting payments from clients (Days Sales Outstanding).
Invoice Cycle Time: The average time it takes to process vendor/subcontractor invoices from receipt to payment.
Cash Flow Monitoring: Accuracy of cash flow forecasts compared to actual cash movement.
Team & Process Improvement
Process Efficiency: Implementation and success of new accounting systems or procedures designed to improve efficiency (e.g., automation of tasks).
Staff Development: Performance reviews and feedback scores for junior staff mentored by the senior accountant.
Job Requirements
Qualification and Experience:
MBA in Accounting, Management, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields with four (4) years of demonstrated Electromechanical company experience
OR
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Management, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields with six (6) years of demonstrated Electromechanical company experience
OR
Advanced Diploma in Accounting, Management, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields with ten (10) years of demonstrated Electromechanical company experience
