Job Summary
The Senior Agronomist is responsible for managing all agronomic activities, including crop production, pest and disease control, irrigation management, and overall field operations. The role ensures optimal flower production through effective planning, supervision, and implementation of best agronomic practices.
Reporting to: Farm Manager
Key Responsibilities
Plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise agronomic, crop protection, and overall field operations
Monitor and report on the agronomic status of flowers to the Farm Manager
Supervise irrigation-related works and participate in work acceptance processes
Ensure farm activities are implemented according to approved plans and schedules
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new varieties, production systems, agrochemicals, and fertilizer specifications
Monitor pesticide-related issues and provide rapid response when required
Supervise and control field supervisors under your responsibility
Prepare weekly work programs and agronomic activity plans and report to the Farm Manager
Coordinate employee work distribution in collaboration with the Harvesting Head
Select chemicals in consultation with the Spray Supervisor and Farm Manager
Organize and conduct training on improved agronomic practices
Submit weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual reports
Maintain strong working relationships among employees
Review and control scouting reports
Organize pre-planting preparation and planting schedules
Prepare fertilizer and irrigation plans
Operate and manage the climatic control computer system
Perform additional duties assigned by the Farm Manager
Job Requirements
Education: BSc Degree in Horticulture or related field
Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years relevant work experience in floriculture or commercial farming
Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of pest and disease management
Good planning and supervisory skills
Ability to prepare technical reports
Proficiency in Oromifa, Amharic, and English (spoken and written)
Strong leadership and team coordination skills
