Position Title: Senior Electrical Engineer

At-Con Engineering & Architecture Consultancy Plc., a well-established and reputable consulting company based in Addis Ababa, is engaged in the design and supervision of civil engineering works, including roads, bridges, buildings, water supply systems, and other infrastructure projects. We are currently looking to hire One (1) qualified and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate electrical engineering design activities for building and infrastructure projects.

• Prepare, review, and modify electrical drawings using AutoCAD, including lighting layouts, power layouts, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and electrical schematics.

• Perform electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations, and circuit breaker selection.

• Design power distribution systems, including transformers, generators, distribution boards, and electrical panels.

• Develop lighting designs, emergency lighting systems, earthing, and lightning protection layouts.

• Review architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings to ensure proper coordination and avoid design conflicts.

• Prepare electrical design reports, technical specifications, material schedules, and Bills of Quantities (BOQ).

• Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.

• Review shop drawings, material submittals, and technical documentation submitted by contractors and suppliers.

• Supervise electrical installation works and ensure compliance with approved drawings and design specifications.

• Conduct site inspections and coordinate electrical testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.

• Coordinate with project managers, consultants, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical issues.

• Monitor project progress, review design changes, and ensure timely delivery of engineering drawings and documents.

• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers, CAD technicians, and site personnel.

• Prepare as-built drawings and maintain accurate records of design revisions and project documentation.

• Identify opportunities to improve electrical system reliability, energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and maintainability.

Minimum Requirements

• BA/MSc degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field from a recognized university.

• Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in electrical engineering, design, supervision and project coordination.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD for preparing, reviewing, and modifying electrical engineering drawings.

• Experience in designing lighting and power distribution systems, single-line diagrams (SLDs), electrical layouts, and panel schedules.

• Knowledge of electrical load calculations, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations, circuit breaker selection, and power distribution design.

• Understanding of transformers, generators, distribution boards, earthing, and lightning protection systems.

• Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.

• Ability to prepare technical reports, electrical specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQ), and material schedules.

• Experience coordinating with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, consultants, and contractors.

• Ability to review electrical drawings, identify design errors, and ensure compliance with technical requirements.

• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to guide junior engineers, coordinate technical teams, and manage design deliverables effectively.

• Develop schematics and technical drawings using CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Altium).

• Conduct performance and safety tests on electrical systems and products.

• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during development and deployment.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical systems into larger projects.

• Maintain documentation for designs, test results, and technical specifications.

• Provide technical support during installation and maintenance phases.

 

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

• BSc MSc Degree in Electrical Engineering,

• At least 2 years of relevant work experience in electrical design, systems development, or infrastructure projects.

• Proven involvement in project execution, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems.

• Proficiency in design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, ETAP, Altium).

• Prepare technical documents, specifications and bill of quantities

• Conduct material inspections and material approvals.

• Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards.

• Experience with power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Effective communication and teamwork skills.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
