Job Summary
The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for overseeing the SACCO’s financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, effective budget management, liquidity monitoring, and strengthening internal controls. The role supports management in strategic financial decision-making while safeguarding members’ funds and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or with related field of study
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, or SACCO operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
Experience with accounting and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting, taxation, and budgeting

Reports To: Finance Manager
Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Maintain accurate accounting records and general ledger accounts.
Prepare management reports, trial balances, income statements, and balance sheets.
Conduct financial analysis and provide recommendations to management.
Monitor cash flow and liquidity position of the SACCO.
Budgeting and Planning
Coordinate annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
Monitor budget implementation and investigate variances.
Support strategic financial planning and investment decisions.
Provide periodic budget performance reports.
Compliance and Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and SACCO policies.
Maintain effective internal control systems to safeguard assets.
Coordinate internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and financial procedures.
Treasury and Reconciliation
Review bank reconciliations and ledger reconciliations.
Oversee payments, receipts, and cash management activities.
Monitor investments and advise management on financial risks and opportunities.
Ensure timely settlement of financial obligations.
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor finance staff.
Provide technical guidance on accounting and financial management matters.
Promote continuous improvement in financial systems and reporting processes.
