About the Ethiopian Red Cross Society 

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) was established in 1935 and is one of the oldest and largest humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia. ERCS provides services to communities affected by natural and manmade disasters through the provision of emergency responses, ambulance and first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, water and sanitation, and other humanitarian services. ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. Currently the ERCS has a structure consisting of 15 Regional Offices, Zonal Branches and District/Woreda Branches, Woreda Red Cross Committee and Kebele Red Cross committees.

ERCS also runs disaster risk reduction programs relating to food security, climate change adaptation, livelihood diversification, and institutional capacity building interventions, with the aim of creating resilience households and communities. ERCS works in partnership with the Ethiopian Government, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), partnering National Societies, members, volunteers and the communities we serve.

II    Job Summary 

The senior inventory Controller and inspection officer is a critical role within the National Society, responsible for overseeing the management, tracking, and control of inventory and movable long-term assets. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of all inventory-related processes, from incoming and outgoing stock movements to warehouse management and reconciliation activities. The specialist plays a key role in maintaining up-to-date records, conducting scheduled and surprise stocktaking exercises, and resolving discrepancies between physical stock counts and inventory records.

Key performance area 

  • Controls over incoming and outgoing movements of stocks and movable long-term assets of the National Secretariat by keeping a logbook record thereof against the movement;

  • Ascertains that bin and/or stock cards are maintained against stock items to track balance thereof during stock movements

  • Participates in scheduled and surprise stocktaking undertakings of the Society, identifies and reconciles differences if any between the stocks count outcomes and the inventory control records; vehicles inventory

  • Maintains the up-to-date inventory of total warehouse items of the Society along with details of make, model, user branches, and roadworthiness; updates warehouse items inventory data in accordance with changes

  • Performs critical inventory tasks to ensure the correct amount of items are in stock and closely control incoming and outgoing items

  • Maintains updated and accurate records of inventory, including transfers and cycle counts

  • Checks and verifies incoming procured long-term and stock items against specifications and support documents before delivery and storage; 

  • Review documentation and monitor stock items to search for discrepancies; troubleshoot quantity discrepancies between stock and records

  • Follows up balances of stock items in accordance with pre-determined minimum or buffer stock level and initiates procurement requisition for stocks at reordering level; 

  • Reports on stock movement accomplishments, differences between stocktaking outcomes and inventory records, and irregularities for prompt action by management; 

  • Sorts out properties that are misappropriated, abused, and damaged and report same for repair and/or replacement;

  • Classifies and codifies the items in the store and keep separate cards;

  • Oversees inventory and supply chain management according to ERCS guidelines

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements: 

  • Second/First degree in Materials Management/inventory management/logistics and supply

   chain management/Accounting/Management/ business management/business administration 

  • 6/8 years’ relevant work experience out of which 3/4 years in senior position.
