Job Summary:
The Senior Mechanic performs advanced troubleshooting, repair, and installation of complex mechanical equipment. This role serves as a technical expert, tackling the most challenging issues to ensure maximum equipment uptime. This is a physically demanding role requiring work in various plant conditions, including exposure to heat, dust, and grease, and involves frequent lifting and working in awkward positions.
Key Responsibilities:
Minimize equipment downtime by rapidly diagnosing and effectively repairing complex failures in mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and pumps.
Lead the execution of major mechanical repairs and overhauls with zero rework required.
Perform precision maintenance tasks, such as shaft alignment and bearing replacement, to improve equipment reliability.
Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

Mentor and provide on-the-job training to junior and mid-level mechanics.
Improve Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) by executing advanced preventive and predictive maintenance tasks.
Assist the Forman in planning and scoping complex maintenance jobs.
Fabricate or modify machine parts as needed using workshop equipment.
Ensure all work is performed to high standards of quality and craftsmanship.
Follow all safety procedures rigorously, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), acting as a safety role model for the team.
Document completed work with detailed reports on findings and actions taken, providing clear information that can be used for root cause analysis and to update preventive maintenance procedures.
Recommend improvements to equipment or maintenance procedures to enhance reliability.
Operate specialized diagnostic tools and equipment.
Perform other related duties as required.
Job Requirements
Education:
BSc/TVET Level V in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with a BSc, or 4 years with a TVET Level V, in the manufacturing industry.
Advanced Mechanical Troubleshooting & Repair (Pumps, Hydraulics).
Precision Maintenance (e.g., Shaft Alignment, Balancing).
Blueprint & Complex Technical Drawing Interpretation.
Commitment to Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) & Workshop Safety.
Mentoring & On-the-Job Coaching.
Fabrication & Welding Skills.
