Shipping and Documentation Officer

Location: Djibouti

Who we are

Cobuilt Solutions is an Ethiopian company operating across the construction, manufacturing, and import sectors. Our activities include ready-mix concrete production, architectural and consultancy services, and importing materials and products.

What you’ll be doing

You will manage shipping and import documentation from Djibouti and coordinate with foreign suppliers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, clearing agents, port representatives, transporters, and our team in Ethiopia.

Your main responsibility will be ensuring that documents are accurate and shipments are cleared and transported on time.

You will be responsible for

  • Preparing, reviewing, and organizing import and shipping documents.
  • Checking bills of lading, invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and customs documents.
  • Tracking shipments from departure through clearance and delivery.
  • Coordinating with shipping lines, suppliers, freight forwarders, clearing agents, and transporters.
  • Following up on container release, customs clearance, and transportation to Ethiopia.
  • Monitoring demurrage, detention, freight, storage, and clearing charges.
  • Reporting shipment progress, delays, costs, and documentation issues to management.
  • Maintaining complete physical and electronic records for each shipment.
  • Resolving missing documents, discrepancies, and shipment delays.

What skills and experience you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, International Trade, or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in shipping, logistics, customs clearing, freight forwarding, or import documentation.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Experience working with foreign suppliers or international partners.
  • Good knowledge of shipping documents, customs procedures, and port operations.
  • Strong communication, coordination, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good Microsoft Excel, Word, email, and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • French, Arabic, Amharic, or Somali is an advantage.

  • Willingness to relocate to Djibouti.
  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • Ability to visit ports, customs offices, banks, warehouses, and logistics providers.
  • Availability outside regular hours when urgent shipment matters arise.
  • A valid passport.
