Our Ethiopia branch is actively engaged in national electrification and infrastructure projects in cooperation with Ethiopian government institutions and international stakeholders. To support our growing operations in Ethiopia, we are seeking motivated and capable professionals to join our team as Social & Community Liaison Officers.

Position: Social & Community Liaison Officer
Work Location: Addis Ababa & Project Sites (Ethiopia)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: Junior / Mid-Level
Salary Range: ETB 80,000 – 145,000 per month (Based on experience, language skills, and overall capability)

Main Responsibilities
The selected candidate will support the company's social performance and community engagement activities, including but not limited to:

Community Engagement & Liaison

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with local communities

  • Organize community meetings and public consultations

  • Communicate project activities and benefits to local stakeholders

  • Identify and address community concerns and grievances

Social Safeguards Support

  • Assist in implementing social safeguard frameworks

  • Support the preparation of Social Impact Assessments

  • Monitor social risks and impacts of project activities

  • Coordinate with local government and administrative bodies

Grievance & Feedback Management

  • Establish and manage community grievance mechanisms

  • Record, track, and follow up on community complaints

  • Prepare monthly grievance reports for management

  • Ensure timely and effective resolution of issues

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with local government officials, kebele administrations, and community leaders

  • Coordinate with EEU and other project stakeholders on social matters

  • Support resettlement and compensation processes when required

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare social progress reports and community engagement summaries

  • Maintain accurate records of meetings, grievances, and resolutions

  • Assist in preparing documents for government and client submissions

Administrative Support

  • Translate documents and provide interpretation services when needed

  • Support project teams on cultural and social context awareness

• • Perform other social and administrative tasks assigned by management

Job Requirements

Educational Background

  • Bachelor / master degree in:

    • Social Sciences / Sociology

    • Community Development

    • Development Studies

    • Anthropology

    • Social Work

    • Related fields

Language Requirements

  • Professional English communication skills (required)

  • Amharic proficiency (required)

  • Knowledge of local languages (Oromifa or Somali) is a strong advantage

  • Additional language skills are an advantage

Experience

  • 4-8 years of experience in community engagement or social work

  • Intern applicants with strong academic backgrounds are welcome

  • Experience in infrastructure or development projects is an advantage

  • Prior experience with community grievance mechanisms is a plus

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse communities

  • Strong empathy and conflict resolution abilities

  • Good organizational and documentation skills

  • Microsoft Office skills required

Job Requirements The successful candidate should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Social Sciences, Sociology, Community Development, Development Studies, Anthropology, Social Work, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in community engagement, social research, community mobilization, stakeholder coordination, needs assessment, project implementation, social protection, capacity building, and development programming is essential. Strong communication, facilitation, interpersonal, analytical, and report-writing skills, along with the ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders, are highly desirable.
