About the SRH next alliance program

The SRH Next Next Alliance Programme aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescents and young people by strengthening access to accurate information, youth-responsive services, community engagement, referral linkages, and an enabling environment for young people to exercise their SRH.

The programme recognizes the important role of families, communities, young people, service providers, and local institutions in addressing barriers to SRH information and services. It therefore emphasizes community awareness, peer engagement, meaningful youth participation, dialogue, referral pathways, and addressing harmful social and gender norms.

Job summary

The Social Worker will support the implementation of SRH Next Alliance activities at community level, with a particular focus on adolescents and young people who may face social, economic, gender, protection, or other barriers to accessing SRH information and services.

The Social Worker will work closely with young people, families, peer educators, community volunteers, health facilities, community leaders, government structures, and other stakeholders to provide appropriate support, facilitate referrals, follow up on cases and referrals, and strengthen community awareness and participation.

The position will also contribute to documentation, monitoring, safeguarding, and reporting of community-level activities while ensuring that all interactions with programme participants are conducted in a rights-based, confidential, inclusive, youth-friendly, and survivor-centered manner.

 Key responsibilities

Community Engagement and Youth Support

• Conduct regular community outreach and engagement with adolescents, young people, families, and community structures.

• Facilitate community discussions and awareness sessions on SRH, gender equality, and related rights.

• Identify social and community-level barriers affecting young people's access to SRH information and services.

• Support adolescents and young people to access appropriate SRH information and services.

• Promote meaningful participation of young people in programme activities and community dialogue.

• Work with peer educators and community volunteers to strengthen outreach and youth engagement.

 Community Mobilization and Awareness

• Support community mobilization activities targeting young people, parents, caregivers, community leaders, and other influential groups.

• Facilitate dialogue on issues affecting adolescents and young people, including harmful gender and social norms, child marriage, FGM, teenage pregnancy, and barriers to SRH services.

• Support intergenerational and community dialogues that promote communication and understanding around young people's SRHR.

• Support the dissemination of accurate, age-appropriate, and rights-based SRH information.

Job Requirements

 Qualification and experience

Education

• Bachelor's degree in: Public Health, Health Sciences; social work and related fields

Experience

• Minimum 2–3 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in social work, community-based programming, SRHR, youth programming, protection, GBV, psychosocial support, or community development.

• Practical experience working directly with adolescents, young people, families, and communities.

• Experience in community mobilization, awareness creation, referral, case follow-up, or social support.

• Experience working with health facilities, government structures, community organizations, youth groups, or CSOs.

Language requirements

• Excellent written and spoken English and Amharic.

• Working knowledge of Afarigna is essential.
