About Data.FI
Data for Implementation (Data.FI) is a global project funded by the U.S. Government (USG) through the Department of State (DoS), Foreign Assistance (FA). Its mission is to help countries use, strengthen, and sustain access to high quality data to achieve primary healthcare goals and accelerate the control of HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and other public health risks.
The project is a mechanism dedicated to strengthening data, technology, and HIS to support the delivery of life-saving care and treatment services. Data.FI aims to improve global, regional, and national in-depth analysis of epidemiologic and programmatic data to further enhance implementation of the USG foreign policy priorities. Data.FI’s focus also includes direct support to host-country governments to enhance existing HIS, thereby informing management responses to well defined gaps in public health programming and sustaining impact by supporting the transition of activities to local partners.
Position Summary
The System Administrator will be responsible for the administration, operation, and maintenance of servers and core services hosted in data centers across multiple regions. The role ensures high availability, security, and performance of mission‑critical systems by managing infrastructure, monitoring services, supporting deployments, and responding to operational issues. The System Administrator will work closely with development, security, and architecture teams to support scalable, reliable platforms in alignment with organizational and national ICT standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Manage day‑to‑day operations of servers and application services hosted across multi‑regional data centers, ensuring systems are available and running reliably.
Monitor, maintain, and optimize operating systems, middleware, and application services to ensure performance, stability, and security.
Administer and operate containerized workloads, including deployment, configuration, and monitoring of Kubernetes clusters and related services.
Support DevOps activities, including CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, configuration management, and release support.
Implement system monitoring, logging, alerting, backup, and recovery mechanisms to support high availability and incident response.
Perform routine system updates, patching, and security hardening in line with organizational policies and best practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve system, service, and application-level issues, working closely with development and support teams.
Maintain technical documentation related to system configurations, operational procedures, and service dependencies.
Support underlying infrastructure (compute, storage, and networking) to ensure it effectively supports hosted services and applications.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
5+ years of experience in system administration, DevOps, or site reliability engineering roles.
Strong experience administering Linux-based systems and managing production services.
Hands-on experience operating Kubernetes clusters and containerized applications.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and deployment workflows.
Solid understanding of monitoring, logging, incident response, and system reliability practices.
Working knowledge of infrastructure fundamentals (compute, storage, networking).
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to document systems and operational procedures.
