Job Summary
The Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring the company’s full compliance with Ethiopian tax laws and regulations by accurately preparing, filing, and reporting all tax-related obligations. The role provides timely tax analysis, planning, and advisory support to management and contributes to sound financial management and risk mitigation within East African National Distribution S.C.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Additional tax training or certification (MoR-recognized) is advantageous.
Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Tax Accounting, preferably in Distribution, Manufacturing, or Logistics companies.
Duties and Responsibilities
Tax Compliance and Reporting
Prepare, review, and submit all statutory tax returns (VAT, Withholding Tax, Payroll Tax, and Corporate Income Tax) accurately and on time.
Ensure that all taxes are paid within the stipulated deadlines to avoid penalties or interest charges.
Maintain an up-to-date understanding of tax laws, directives, and regulatory updates issued by the Ministry of Revenue.
Verify and reconcile all tax-related accounts with the general ledger.
Tax Planning and Advisory
Provide advice to management on tax implications of various business decisions.
Identify and recommend opportunities for legitimate tax savings and efficiency.
Support the Finance Manager in developing tax-compliant operational and accounting systems.
Audit and Documentation
Prepare schedules, documents, and reports required for internal and external audits.
Act as a liaison with tax authorities during audits, inquiries, or inspections.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of all tax filings, correspondence, and payments.
Coordination and Internal Support
Work closely with Payroll, Procurement, and Sales teams to collect and verify tax-related data.
Ensure all procurement and sales transactions are compliant with VAT and withholding tax requirements.
Generate monthly and quarterly tax summary reports for management.
Recordkeeping and Reconciliation
Regularly reconcile tax payable and receivable accounts.
Identify discrepancies and report findings promptly to the Finance Manager.
Maintain an electronic and physical filing system for all tax documents.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of Ethiopian Tax Laws and MoR directives.
Proficiency in Peachtree, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
Strong understanding of IFRS
Strong analytical, numerical, and reporting skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
High integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
