About the Organization:
VisionFund Micro Finance Institution (S.C) is an Institution established according to proclamation No. 40/96 to provide financial services to the productive poor in the rural and urban areas of Ethiopia. VisionFund is currently operating in five of the Regional States of the country. VisionFund MFI is currently looking candidates to fill the vacant positions for batch recruitment for Accounts and Control Officer role. The successful candidates will have skills and experience that meet the following requirements:
2. JOB SUMMARY
The Tax Compliance Accountant is responsible for ensuring that the organization fully complies with all applicable tax laws and regulations in Ethiopia. The role focuses on reviewing transactions, monitoring tax obligations, supporting accurate tax reporting and filing, and following up on new and existing tax requirements related to profit tax, VAT, staff benefits taxation, withholding taxes, and other statutory obligations.
3. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Ensure full compliance with Ethiopian tax laws, directives, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare, review, and submit periodic tax declarations (VAT, withholding tax, payroll tax, profit tax, and other applicable taxes).
Maintain proper tax documentation and records for audit and regulatory review.
Ensure timely payment of all tax obligations and avoid penalties and non-compliance risks.
Transaction Review & Verification
Review financial transactions to ensure correct tax treatment and classification.
Verify VAT applicability, withholding tax deductions, and payroll tax calculations.
Monitor tax impacts on new products, services, and operational activities.
Support accurate accounting entries in line with tax regulations.
Regulatory Monitoring & Advisory
Track new tax laws, directives, and amendments issued by relevant authorities.
Analyze implications of regulatory changes and advise management on required actions.
Provide guidance to departments and branches on tax compliance matters.
Participate in implementing internal controls to ensure tax compliance.
Profit Tax & Staff Benefit Taxation
Support preparation of annual corporate income tax computations.
Ensure proper tax treatment of employee benefits, allowances, and incentives.
Coordinate with HR and Finance teams on payroll-related tax compliance.
VAT & Withholding Tax Management
Monitor VAT compliance, reconciliation, and reporting accuracy.
Follow up on VAT receivable/payable balances and ensure proper documentation.
Ensure correct withholding tax application and timely remittance.
Audit & Liaison
Coordinate tax audits and respond to tax authority queries.
Facilitate submission of required documentation and explanations during reviews.
Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.
Follow-up on Tax Issues
Identify and escalate tax risks and compliance gaps.
Follow up on unresolved tax matters and regulatory correspondence.
Ensure implementation of corrective actions related to tax findings.
Other
Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
4. Minimum Qualifications
A) Education/Training
BA Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
Professional certification and trainings regarding tax is an advantage
Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience in tax compliance, preferably in MFI/Banks.
Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws, including VAT, profit tax, and withholding tax.
Experience working with tax audits and regulatory reporting
B) Technical and Other Skills
Strong understanding of tax regulations and financial reporting.
Analytical and detail-oriented mindset.
Ability to interpret tax directives and implement practical solutions.
Good communication and coordination skills with internal and external stakeholders.
High integrity and confidentiality in handling financial and tax information.
Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
C) Working Conditions and Level of Travel Required
Office environment: typical office based with few travels to branches
Terms of Employment: Permanent
