VisionFund Micro Finance Institution (S.C) is an Institution established according to proclamation No. 40/96 to provide financial services to the productive poor in the rural and urban areas of Ethiopia. VisionFund MFI is currently operating in four of the Regional States of the country. VisionFund MFI is looking for competent candidates for the position of Training & Development Officer. The successful candidates will have skills and experience that meet the following requirements:
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct regular Training Needs Assessments (TNA) across departments (Head Office, branches, and field staff) through surveys, interviews, performance data analysis, branch visits, and consultation with line managers.
Design and develop annual training plans and calendars aligned with organizational goals, strategic priorities, product developments, regulatory requirements, and identified skill gaps.
Create and update training content, manuals, e-learning modules, case studies, role-plays, and other learning materials relevant to microfinance operations (group lending, individual lending, savings mobilization, digital channels, financial literacy, client protection principles, delinquency management, etc.).
Organize and conduct induction/on boarding programs for new employees, ensuring they understand microfinance principles, institutional values, products, processes, code of conduct, and client-centered service.
Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness using Kirkpatrick model or similar frameworks (reaction, learning, behavior change, business results) — including pre/post-training tests, field observations, performance tracking, and feedback surveys.
Maintain accurate training records, attendance, evaluation reports, certification tracking, and training budget utilization.
Prepare periodic reports (monthly/quarterly) on training activities, outcomes, impact, and budget for management and stakeholders.
Stay updated on microfinance industry best practices, regulatory changes (e.g., microfinance directives, consumer protection guidelines), emerging digital tools, and adult learning methodologies.
Collaborate with Operations, Credit, Risk, Product Development, and Compliance teams to ensure training reflects current business needs and product features.
Revises and updates all the training modules in accordance with the changes in policies and procedures, as well as the best practices in the industry.
Acts as custodian of all the training modules
Provides the HR department the yearly training plan and estimated expenses for all the training activities
S/He is responsible for making sure that all the staff receives complete training
Ensures the availability of training equipment and venue for the scheduled training
Ensures that the staff under IT, HR & admin, Operation, Finance and other departments receive the necessary on-the-job coaching from their respective supervisors
Renders on-the-job coaching for new credit officers;
Coordinates with the Human Capital Center of Excellence Division Manager in identifying the training needs of the staff
Ensures that rational system and practical, procedures and laid down for assessing staff performance and that fair and t4ransparent evaluations are carried out.
Follows-up, collect, check and communicate with other processes &update employee periodic performance evaluation points on the data base;
Performs other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
BA Degree in HR Management, Management, Human Resources & Organizational Development, Public Administration or related field.
Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in training & development, preferably in a microfinance institution, bank, financial services or NGO with microfinance operations.
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Integrated knowledge and understanding of human resources concepts, practices, systems, and procedures;
Ability to interact and deal with people;
Excellent planning, organizational, analytical and decision-making skills;
Firm belief in teamwork and gender equality;
Basic computer skills;
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent facilitation, presentation, and public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse adult learners (field officers with varying education levels).
Proficiency in training evaluation methods and learning management systems (LMS) or basic e-learning tools is an advantage.
Direct experience delivering training to field/branch staff in microcredit, group lending, client assessment, or financial inclusion programs is highly desirable.
Proven track record in designing and delivering adult learning programs in resource-constrained environments.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; fluency in written and spoken English (additional local languages highly desirable).
High ethical standards, integrity, and commitment to client-centered financial inclusion.
Salary: As per the Institution salary scale
