Job Purpose 

To expedites customs and other formalities for goods purchased from abroad; maintains good working relationships with transit service providers to expedite other formalities for the clearing of goods found in the port customs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Fulfills the necessary formalities for the release of goods from customs as soon as documents are out of the bank;

  • Ensures that documents such as invoices insurance certificates, bills of lading, bank permits, packing lists, cancellation tickets, etc. are sent to the concerned agent when goods are cleared though transit services;

  • Confirms conditions of goods at the customs; reports to his/her supervisor if any of the goods is defective, broken, or short delivered in order to file insurance claim;

  • Requests for tax deduction if after seen by inspector’s confirmation is made that the number is shorter than what is on the bill of lading;

  • Prepares list of goods at the customs, the cost that incurs, the tariff  and the type of taxes to be paid, differentiates between the taxable and non-taxable goods, and ensures that the tax payment is effected correctly;

  • Prepares declaration for goods to be released from customs, attaches invoices and packing list and receivable goods from the warehouse after goods are inspected and the necessary tax estimation is done by customs officials; gets confirmation from the customs in case of any shortage; 

  • Follows up the insurance expiration date and reminds his/her supervisor for the renewal of same;

  • Follows up the timely arrival of goods at port, their systematic clearance from customs for prompt delivery to company warehouses;

  • Performs other related duties as instructed by supervisor.

Job Requirements

Education: BA Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or from recognized college/TVET level IV /10+3/ diploma in Accounting/ Banking & Insurance and, 

Experience: 2/6 years of relevant experience, preferably in export/import companies

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of customs procedures, transit operations, and export/import regulations.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to coordinate effectively with customs officials, transit agents, and internal teams.

  • Good reporting, documentation, and record-keeping skills.
